So, I never really liked Snow White. She’s kind of the lamest princess, no offense to the original Disney movie. All that being said, I’m completely lost by why there are two different Snow White films being made.
Since neither are out yet, it’s hard to say which will be better, but it’s easy to see how different the movies will be completely different.
Will I see one? Probably. Which one? Hard to tell…
Snow White and the Huntsman trailer showed up earlier and showed a very bad ass Charlize Theron as the evil queen. The rest of it was pretty shots and Kirsten Stewart falling and looking stoic as ever. But they do have Thor…Also lots of lovely CGI and an electronic score that reminds me of Sucker Punch. This one should be a good, gritty action film. But I’m definitely cheering for Charlize as the evil queen.
On the other hand is Mirror, Mirror, which just so happens to be the name of another unrelated Snow White retelling. I feel another whimsical, colorful film from Tarsem, hopefully closer to The Fall than any of his other works. Also the movie actually seems to be about Snow White unlike the other which kind of featured her as a side character. I feel like there are almost enough gritty action versions of films that it’s nice to get back to the magical feel of fairy tales without being flat out Disnified. However, I don’t know how I feel about Julia Roberts’ Queen being so silly. But it works in the trailer. Most importantly, not a lazy good for nothing heroine unlike some other female protagonists in ridiculous vampire stories *cough*cough*
Of course the real test will be the movies themselves. As much as I want to see Snow White and the Huntsman, I have a feeling I won’t want to waste spend the money to see a movie with Kristen Steward. Maybe I’ll redbox it.
Not sure how I feel about this…Maybe if they did something cool showing stuff with the Time War. Origin stories are pretty big, but what would the 1st doctor look like back in the day?
Like any movie, it’s kind of based off how well they do it, even if it doesn’t fit with the original story. I mean, look at Chris Nolan’s Batman trilogy. It may not fit the comics completely but they sure beat out the one with Clooney. Just sayin’.
Also, speaking of movies that do look legit, Hunger Games is not only living up to my expectations, but maybe even surpassing them (judging by the trailer). But then again you can’t judge a movie by a trailer…
